Isolation is a dream killer! Are you circling the drain?
I may not seem like an isolationist by any means.
But there are degrees of disconnection and fragmentation. --And yes, even
hatred. It does not matter if these conditions are only mild feelings, like passing thoughts, like only a droplet in a bucket – or, at the other end
of the spectrum, if these emotions are so strong
they are pressing against your heart and soul and threatening to shatter everything that is you.
These tendencies are like seeds, if nurtured, they will smother
the heart, shrink the soul and will eventually
lead to DEATH – a long, slow miserable death.
During the past five years of
what I like to call “The Dark Days,” I had withdrawn.
How many of us
were like the boy and his cat in the photo, hiding inside and looking out? I was no different than everyone else. I was hurt, frightened, and angry. I disconnected.
It is rare to meet someone who was not affected during that time of disconnection and distrust. For
me this blog is my way of taking my first step back into the open. I’m standing
on the front porch with my hand still on the doorknob. But I’m reaching out.
I want to share with you what
kept me from “circling the drain.”
Today there are too many of us who are without a community and without
meaningful relationships. Only 8% percent of us feel we have anyone in our life
with which we can have a meaningful conversation. Teenage suicide has risen
70%! That is an epidemic of which no one is talking about We are suffering in a valley that has led us deep into
a wilderness. We are alone.
Author and Pulitzer prize winner , Ann Dillon says, “ We
must achieve the complex ability to care
for others and give ourselves away, or we will die because we cannot survive alone.”
And I say, “If we don’t, our body will threaten for a
while trying to warn us, but then it
will give up, the heart will stop beating while our souls shrink from lack of
spiritual nourishment.”
So today I am stepping outside. I
am offering you my hand.
I want to share the Spiritual
Galaxy I have found within me.
